To hire or to buy?
Hiring your hat
Hiring a hat, rather than purchasing outright, can be a fun thing to do but also brings you the following valuable benefits:
• Allows you to choose from hundreds of hats rather than just a few in the usual dress-shop and so helps to ensure a perfect match is found • You can choose a hat for a specific occasion (e.g. an extravagant model for Ascot) rather than one which will have to ‘double up’ • Removes the nagging problem of having to wear it more than once! • Saves storage space in your wardrobe and, importantly … • Saves you a considerable amount of money!
Very importantly we do not stock any hat in one design and one colour-way, so we can guarantee you will not be wearing the same hat as anybody else from the area!
How much money it saves you is easy to see from the table below. Each hat has a Code-letter (AA to k) which reflects the usual retail price that you would pay if purchasing it outright. Each Code has a Hire Charge and a Deposit as shown in the list, along with the typical retail price (RRP) for that type/quality/design of hat or fascinator.
When you collect the hat you will be asked to leave a cheque or credit card slip as a fully refundable Deposit – but this is never cashed and returned upon safe return of the hat in good condition.
High-Class Millinery
We now have some fantastic hats available from Siggi. We also stock Nigel Rayment and some Philip Treacy.

Buying your hat
If you prefer to purchase rather than hire we will be delighted to specially supply individual hats from one of our extensive range of supplying milliners. One such milliner offers us a 48h service and yet has a wide choice of beautiful styles and colour-ways. In the unlikely event of you not liking the hat or fascinator when it is delivered (hats can be such a personal thing!) then we may well be able to minimise any costs by taking it into our hire-stock.
We have new hats for sale from £65 to £700.
Some very pretty basic summer hats, and particularly some fascinators, are specifically in the shop for Sale – just ask us to point these out.
Winter Hats
As a general rule we sell the more practical and straightforward Winter Hats rather than Hire them – mainly due to the fact that they are more likely to be worn again by the purchaser.
Current Hire Hats
Hats usually remain in the Hire stock for less than three years and as they age the hire charge is often reduced slightly and, a ‘For Sale’ price is added. The Sale price is always a very substantial reduction on the RRP and you may well be attracted to purchase rather than hire.
Hats that are popular and that are no longer in production are often held in stock for longer. With regular TLC, steam-cleaning and redecoration.
